Hi
My name is Giancarlo, (pronounced “John-Carlo” ! ) but better known as Jon-Jon! I arrived in New Zealand in 2020 with my lovely wife, Eucher and our beloved fur-baby, Lia. I work in the dairy industry, but during my spare time, love to explore and photograph beautiful Aotearoa New Zealand!
Growing up in the beautiful Magaliesburg mountain ranges of South Africa, I experienced nature’s beauty first-hand and my love for photography is almost as old as my love of the outdoors.
In 2011 I bought my first DSLR and together with a group of six friends flew to Tanzania to climb Africa’s highest mountain, Kilimanjaro.
This experience was both the most challenging hike of my life as well as the most rewarding. I not only discovered beautiful landscapes but discovered a love of photographing people and how they live. I found that the natural moments make the best pictures. I found that these candid and unposed photos gave me my first glimpse into the world of Street Photography.
This style is defined by capturing precise and unposed moments of people in everyday places where the photographer hopes to tell a story. With good composition, colour, texture and shadow play, can have an extremely powerful impact on many different levels.
Professional Work
In the early part of my career I did work for two well known South African Watercolour artists: Billy McGill and Rita S. Kajaks-Schubert.
While being in Africa and having the opportunity of photographing a wide variety of wild animals, I was privileged to be asked to adjudicate “Black Rhino in the Lens” , a wildlife photography competition hosted by one of South Africa’s top privately owned Game Reserves: Black Rhino Reserve.
I am also proud to have been published on various media platforms throughout South Africa: Men’s Health, Women’s Health, Trail-Runner and Umhlanga Ridge Magazines. As well as Rustenburg Herald and Platinum Weekly Newspapers
I am also a listed contributor on 5 Stock Photography websites, namely, Alamy, 123RF, Fotolia, Canstockphoto and Depositphotos.
